The Dark Canvas of Lights

Proudly all gather together to celebrate,
All anxious eyes look up and await;
A dark canvas about to be painted with lights,
Glistening more than the stars at night!
About to take off like a bullet or flare,
The anticipation is felt in the air.
Booming shapes begin to fly high,
Bursting forth colors in the night sky.
Spirals and discs of blue and green;
Sparkles of white and red hearts are seen.
Magic fills the festive air;
Oohs and aahs with goose bumps stare.
Exploding like a rumbling quake,
The crowds come to life, now wide awake!
Shooting up above all heads,
Then turning into dazzling spreads;
Dancing works of beautiful art,
Soon disappear and fall apart;
Down to the ground with flickers and sparks.
Minds are drawn to our brave patriarchs;
Heroes who fought for this country and died,
Gaining our independence with pride;
Blood was shed as bombs burst in the air,
The price that was paid for freedom to spare.
Spectators take in the spectacular sight,
As children squeal with utter delight!
Suddenly, the crowds begin to cheer;
The grand finale is watched without fear!
Spitting sparks and pops that hypnotize
As all at once comes the twinkling surprise!
Sprinkling just like a meteor shower,
Unfolding like a blossoming flower.
Shooting arrows and shapes and sprays;
All eyes are glued to the brilliant display!
Chills of satisfaction go down the spine
Just like the first kiss and new love outshine!
Emotions burst with each exploding creation,
Awe struck by the radiant decoration.
Thankful for the clear sky and dry weather
And for one of the few chances for integrating together.
But soon traffic jams begin to form,
The fun is over and vehicles swarm.
Rude people beep and yell ahead,
After smiling at the skies’ stunning spread.
It’s baffling how some can get so annoyed,
Especially after an event so enjoyed.
The long waiting to drive home was expected to begin,
But peering into cars, you see such grins,
For it was worth it all to be there,
And each will return again next year!
