Southern cookin’s done just right;
You never can take just one bite!
Tasty, greasy, crisp, and sweet;
Savory spices that can’t be beat!
Soft and juicy, buttery bliss;
A meal time you won’t want to miss.
Oh, so fattening, but fine cuisine;
Like hot, buttered corn bread with collard greens;
Crawfish and shrimp boiled or etouffee,
Or slurping down gumbo to make your day.
Deep-fried pickles and tender catfish;
Sweet potato casserole, a holiday dish.
Country fried steak topped with sauce, so thick;
Sausage and gravy with biscuits, made quick.
Pecan pie makes taste buds dance;
Rich peach cobbler, you’ll drool at a glance!
Just wash it all down with iced cold tea,
And you’re pleasantly filled to capacity!
So, you see how Southerners can cook and bake;
This talent takes time and feet that ache.
But the South is the place where cookin’s done right,
And they even say, Ya’ll come back!” with delight!
Oh, I know this may sound rather impolite,
But, “Here I come with a big appetite!”
