The Man of Sorrows

Friend of sinners to those in need,
With saving grace to daily feed.
The Savior with the sweetest embrace,
His chosen ones to seek His face.
Despised and rejected time and again;
A man of sorrows, looked down on by men.
What brought Him joy and constant pleasure?
Serving His Father for whom He treasured!
Full of humility, healed the sick and the lame;
Ridiculed and scorned, yet without blame.
So familiar with suffering and grief;
Taking our misery, bringing relief.
Carried our shame, as Scriptures fulfilled,
On earth to do His Father’s Will.
Like a lamb led to the slaughter to die,
Our debt, He paid, to satisfy.
Crushed for wickedness on the cross;
Gave us new life and peace at His loss.
His wounds and blood shed, made to heal;
With His love, the purchase to seal.
Suffered this burden of man’s long ago,
Sympathizes and comforts, as we suffer and grow.
Our Hope on High, without a stain,
Rose again, forever to reign!
Gave eternal life to man;
Fulfilled God’s perfect omnipotent plan.
Saved the lost and made souls new,
Returning one day for me and you!
Because of Him, Victory was won,
The Man of sorrows, God’s only Son.
