GOD'S MASTERPIECE (BY: Dora Dinsmore)

From graceful lilies pure and white,
God fashioned lovely skin,
Forget-me-nots he chose for eyes,
Then formed your baby chin.
He took a tulip bright and red --
'Twas one that did not fade;
A softer, sweeter little mouth
Before was never made.
Another flower next He used --
A rosebud, pink and fair;
Touched it to your dimpled cheeks
And bade it blossom there.
Then with His magic fingers picked
Two morning glories white;
Curled and shaped your little ears,
Soon they were fastened tight.
That crowning bit of golden down
Will soon become your hair;
He gathered pollen from the flowers,
And sprinkled it with care.
For dainty little fingers dear
And precious, tiny toes,
He used slender daisy frills;
A snowdrop made your nose.
This world and all within it
He created here for man;
But Baby was "God's Masterpiece"
Since time and life began!

This is the most beautiful verse ever written in my opinion for the birth of a new baby, to me it say's it all. And I think it is sad that it is not on sale today.

I wish this verse was available in the stores today, it was one I received on the birth of each of my children and the only card I can say I still recall the beautiful verse.

Hallmark Cards first brought this out on a Birth card in 1956, so I believe.
I have not seen this particular verse on a card since around 1983 when my daughter was born. There is a similar version but it does not a candle to the original
and I think Hallmark would make a killing on sales if this were to be available again? Come on Hallmark, make my day, lets flood the shops with it again, please?

I remember my mum receiving this as a book, each page had a picture and a verse. Over the years it has become damaged, I would love to find a replacement.

Many years ago my second baby son was a cot death aged 5 weeks. I was so lucky as my beautiful daughter was born 17 months later and my Mum sent me a card with this poem in it. Sadly all my baby keepsakes, including cards, were destroyed in a fire but the words will stay with me forever.

I recieved this card on the birth of my first daughter in 1981. It was given to me by my eldest brother and his wife. I loved the poem when I first read it and have remembered it all these years...what a treasure it was, and still is. It travelled with me when I emigrated abroad and now is in the hands of the grown up daughter for whom it was originally intended. May she keep it safe and pass it on as a lasting momento. My brother passed away recently and I am arranging his funeral now but the memories of the card he sent to me shall stay with me forever. Why don't they make cards like that today?
