See how quickly life passes you by
Like the baby grown up before your very own eyes.
Each day melts away like a snow flake that falls,
As fast as the waves that crash in the sea.
Disappearing like gusts of invisible wind,
Fading like a flower;
Vanishing like the dawn.
So many cares to cause worry and grief,
Seeming at times overwhelming in numbers;
Like the grains of sand on the vast sea shore,
Or the number of hairs on each head that falls.
New seasons come and go one by one.
Troubles seem to swarm like the bees,
More than the leaves of the woods and trees,
More than the words or letters to read.
But, stop for a moment to take a deep look!
Follow the flocks of birds in the air;
They rush to the south for warmth and care,
To leave the cold, soon to be spared,
Returning in the Spring time,
The same spot but new strength!
There is a place to run from the cold,
When Fall brings the dark Winter,
The summer beauty withered away;
When rays of sunshine become clouds of rain;
Bold lightning and thunder seem to never end.
The arms of Jesus are open wide,
To fill the emptiness and hold you tight;
To speak gentle whispers that heal all wounds,
As you feed on His words, to fill up your cup;
Like water quenches thirst,
And milk nourishes bones;
Refreshment to be found like a lake, so calm.
Grace will flow through your aching heart,
Like the gushing force of a waterfall;
Peace will take over, bringing perfect rest,
Like the sleep of the infant so new and small.
Yes, life is fleeting with its trials and woes;
All is vanity, selfishness, and foolish pride.
But the hope of the Savior fills up the soul,
And the fighting battle is finally won!
Yearn for His work in your life to bring glory;
Press on, knowing the victory has already come,
Paid in full at the cross for sinners,
Submitting to whatever His Will shall bring.
Don’t let the short time on this earth pass by,
Losing sight in frenzies and furies of life;
Or dragging along like a beggar, needing help,
Or like a child lost in a jungle of vines.
The urgency and pleasures of this world will be gone;
Its business and cares, so futile and few;
But the things of Christ are eternal and lasting;
Long for the priceless gift soon to come!
God sends seasons of storm and wind and rain,
To bring us back, to follow Him more;
To see Him more clearly and draw from His love;
To lean on His faithfulness and trust Him more.
Without God’s work in our lives, what’s the meaning?
Like stagnant water in a murky pond, what’s its purpose?
But with Jesus, the rescuer and transformer of souls,
All needs are met, giving strength like the birds;
For when he returns in the spring, renewed,
He is ready to work and cheerfully sings.
Oh God, keep reviving us on this path,
Preparing our souls for your return at last!
