COUSINS (Written by Elizabeth Walton; published in 1996)

(This poem was passed down from one cousin to
another). The author of this poem was a distant
relative of theirs, who wrote it about her own cousin!

We are cousins-
We sprang from the same root-
Share the same grandparents
And
Great-grandparents.
You are flesh of my flesh
And bone of my bone.
The next thing to being brother or sister.
How wonderful it is that God
So planned it that way!
But-
Adding to the fact that we are
Cousins,
We are also,
Friends!
